Stopping By The Woods On a Snowy Evening

When in school, we had to memorize a poem and say it before the class.
The teacher probably had no idea but maybe a hope that if just one of the students got a liking for poetry, then her job was done.

My. Great grandmother wrote poems so maybe I got my affection for poetry from her...

This is one of my favorites from a very young age....

***************************

Whose woods these are, I think I know, his house is in the village though.
He will  not see me stopping here to watch his woods fill up with snow..

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the wood and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sounds the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep
And I have miles to go before I sleep,
And I have miles to go before I sleep.
