Differences between the 1977 book and the 1980 film include the transition from the central character Jack Torrance from a good father to a longer-running killer maniac, and shown in more detail in the original work, and the fate of Hotel Overlook which, in adaptation it remains intact rather than being destroyed.

"I don't want to get into a big argument about how good Kubrick's Enlightened Movie made. All I can say is that Mike took my material and created a terrifying story," King said. "I and the people who watched loved because he coneseguiu get my book Doctor Sleep , the sequence, and somehow naturally integrated version of The Shining Kubrick, the film. So yes, I liked it a lot."
